Robert Dusek received his academic training at the Eastman School of Music, Southern Methodist University and the University of Colorado – Boulder, where he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1990. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors in the field of composition, including Columbia University’s Bearns Prize, the A.S.C.A.P. Raymond—Hubbard Award, an A.H.A.B – Neodata Fellowship for his Symphony no. 1, and several national and local awards and grants. His music has been performed worldwide and recorded by such groups as North-South Consonance and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
As a pianist, he has performed in 38 states and has recorded with the Eastman Philharmonia and the Musica Nova ensemble. He has been a soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic, the S.M.U. symphony and various university and community orchestras. He has been a frequent guest artist of the Milwaukee Civic Music Association concert series, and continues to perform in solo and chamber recitals across the nation.
Dusek is a highly sought after adjudicator for state and regional piano competitions, and for several years maintained a private music studio. Until recently, he served as Pastor of Worship and Arts at Centerpoint Community Church where he was responsible for all aspects of artistic and musical presentations, including large productions.
Robert’s other interests and activities include photography, poetry, hiking and shooting (or what he calls “killing paper”). He is a frequent speaker and lecturer on the arts in both university and private settings. He currently lives in Arvada, Colorado, with his wife whom he loves and his dog whom he tolerates.
